Notes:
There are a few things to take note of when using these greetings:
1.Ohayoogozaimasu おはようございます is used until about 11 a.m. Between friends and family it is often shortened to ohayoo ぉはょぅ.
2. Konnichi wa こんにちは is used during the daytime from about 11 a.m. till about 6p.m. It is not used between members of the same family.
3. Konban wa こんぱんは is used in the evening after about 6 p.m. It is not used between members of the same family.
4. All of these greetings are used when meeting but never when parting.
5. Although these expressions are the Japanese equivalents of "Good morning,” “Good day,” and “Good evening” they do not contain any word meanings of these greetings are as follows :
--ohayoo gozaimasu is an archaic way of saying “It’s early.”
--konnichi wa ia an unfinished question similar to “okuni wa…” It literally means “Today….?” With the implied question “How is it?”
--konban wa is similar to the above. It means “This evening... (how is it ?)”
